First African American female appointed to teach Art in the Sulzberger Junior High School, Philadelphia, PA (October 15, 1935). This pioneer passed the exam in 1926, but, because of the policy of the Board of Education, she was not appointed at that time. In the Spring of 1935, she took the exam again, receiving the highest rating.
