First African American woman in the United States to become a Licensed Commercial Pilot and Co-owner of a Flying School.(1937). This pioneer co-founded the National Airmen's Association of America. By 1942, she had organized a flying service and was named by the United States government as Federal Coordinator for the Chicago (Illinois) Unit of the Civilian Pilot Training Program (1942) Her efforts were directly related to the establishment of the 99th Pursuit Squadron at Tuskeegee, Alabama.
