First African American Proprietress of the Summers Embroidery Works. Besides doing towels and linens, the shop embroidered dresses, hats and underwear. She had contracts with the department stores in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania including Gimbel's, Kaufman's, Horne's, McCreery's and Rosenbaum's as well as Arbuthnott-Stevenson, a large wholesale company that supplied hotels and other facilities in the Pittsburgh area.
