This pioneer became a Founding Member of the District of Columbia Public Charter School Board (1997). She was the first African American female to serve on the Board of the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA), and was a founding member (2001). She served as the first and only African American President of the Board (2005 - 2012)
