Contribution:
First practicing African American female physician in the state of Maryland. This pioneer received her medical degree in 1930 from Howard University School of Medicine. After interning at Freedmen's Hospital (DC) and during her residency at Provident Hospital (Baltimore, MD), she was appointed Staff Physician at the Maryland Training School for Girls (1933 - 1940). At Baltimore's Provident Hospital, she served as a member of the staff (1940 - 1950) and Chief of Obstetrics (1950 - 1952).
