First African American female to work for the American Friends, a Quaker organization that came to Dallas, Texas to help integrate the work force (1950). Her task was to go out daily and apply for jobs. She heard all of the reason that she could not be hired. Eventually, she went to Volks, a specialty store. They were opening a store in upscale community Highland Park. After being trained by the American Friends to use a cash register, intercom, and Gift Wrap, the ladies returned to Volks and were hired in the Highland Park store.
