Contribution:

First African-American tennis player to compete at the U.S. National Championships (1950). First African American to compete in international tennis - at Wimbledon (1951). This pioneering Soror won the French championship in 1956 and became the first African American to win the Women's Singles title at Wimbledon (1957). Over the years she won eleven (11) Grand Slam Tennis championships with the United Tennis Association, and she is now in the International Tennis Hall of Fame and the International Women\'s Sports Hall of Fame.
